Big Sky Over the Great Plains

I used oil with cold wax medium to increase transparency and facilitate working in layers. I use a palette knife and catalyst tools instead of brushes to blend and scrape back the paint. This was a painting done from memory of growing up in the wide open spaces of western Nebraska. The clouds would roll in, kick up dust and obscure the horizon. The endless cloud formations and tones against the nearly barren earth made for many transcendent moments.
